The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation: Celebrating Ten Years of giving the Gift of Time.

What We Do & How We Do It

When no other resources are available, social workers at our affiliated children’s hospitals send us urgent requests on behalf of single parent families in financial crisis. We respond immediately and without additional paperwork because social workers have already verified their need. The variety of requests range from essentials, such as food, transportation, utilities, and medications not covered by insurance to funds to protect a family from eviction or foreclosure.

We work with 12 pediatric hospitals nationwide.  For a list of these hospitals and information regarding the application process, please click here.

If a child is not treated at one of these hospitals, we have two special funds to provide emergency assistance.  The first, the Everyday Needs Assistance Fund, funded by the Genentech Foundation, meets urgent financial needs of single parent families whose children are undergoing treatment for cancer.  Our Compassion Can’t Wait Fund assists single parent families of children with any catastrophic diagnosis who are struggling to make ends meet and who have exhausted all other resources.  We welcome inquiries from social workers and families at info@andreriveroflife.org or (310) 276-7111.

We respond in 24 hours “when compassion can’t wait.”

Our River enhances and sustains lives in many other ways. We will advocate for airline tickets for a grandparent coming to help, or buy a wig for a self-conscious teenager returning to school after chemotherapy, or pay for ballet lessons for a neglected sibling. Instead of restriction, we give as freely as our River will allow.
