Meet Michael

One year old Michael was born with a congenital heart condition and Down’s syndrome. For his mother, it was absolutely non-negotiable that she would stay with her infant son in neo-natal intensive care while his health stabilized and she learned how to tend to Michael’s needs. By choosing to remain with Michael during his hospitalization, Mom lost her job and amidst the chaos, her bills immediately started to pile up and suddenly she was at risk of eviction from her apartment. With ASRL’s help, Michael’s Mom was able to pay three month’s rent and return to work later as her son’s condition stabilized.

The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation (a 501(c)(3) public charity) provides emergency assistance within 24 hours to single caregivers of children with catastrophic or life threatening illnesses who are in financial crises. Working in partnership with 12 pediatric hospitals nationally, we have helped over 7,000 family members in the past nine years. Without ASRL’s support, many children with life threatening illnesses would be facing pain, treatments, fear, and at times, even their death, without a parent by their side.
