Meet Raymond
Raymond is a twelve year old boy who was diagnosed with a high risk form of leukemia several years ago. Sadly, he recently suffered a terrible relapse and emergency hospitalization. His prognosis is not hopeful, and since his single mother also has a seventeen year old with spinal bifida at home, the future looks painful for Raymond’s family. Although she had been upporting her family as a grocery clerk, Mom stopped all work to stay with Raymond in the hospital. She has been living in Raymond’s room, but feels torn to be away from her other child – who is staying with her aunt. The crisis came when Mom didn’t even have enough money for gasoline to get home to see her other child. ASRL caught the family up on its overdue bills, bought gas cards so that Mom can travel between her two fragile children, and gave the family the gift of time together.
