Meet Marcus
Marcus was thirteen years old when he was rushed to his local emergency room with an excruciating pain in his hip. After lengthy tests, he was finally diagnosed with a rare and dangerous tumor known as synovial cell carcinoma. It had already spread to his lungs. Marcus is no stranger to crisis: his mother died when he was just 13. His single dad, a carpenter, is used to juggling work and caring for Miguel, but now he must also make the lengthy 200 mile journey to the hospital. He was unable to work nearly as much as he had before, and the family lost their house. Relatives opened their own home to the family when Marcus returned from the hospital, but now that Marcus is back in the hospital, Dad only wants to be at his side. ASRL stepped in to relieve the family’s financial burdens so that the father and son can be together during Marcus’ fragile medical crisis. Marcus and his Dad often say, “at least we have each other.”
