Meet India

snapshot-2009-11-01-13-29-26India’s family situation was at once tragic and breathtaking in its dramatic unfolding.  So many things went wrong at once.  Mom and Dad’s company went under, and then Dad lost his new job as well, and the health insurance that came with it.  At the same time their sixteen-year old daughter India suffered another catastrophic cancer diagnosis (she’d already undergone extensive chemotherapy treatment at the age of four).  Her throat and mouth cancer was relentless, and came at a time when the family’s finances were at their most strained.  Even as they worried about carrying for India, they were being threatened with foreclosure on their home.  India’s mother was in despair over the possibility that the family of six would lose their home – their only stability – during this chaotic time.  ASRL immediately began to work with the loan servicing company to stop the foreclosure proceedings, giving the family some breathing room.  Even as their main financial burden was eased, the family learned that there were no more treatment options for India.  She is now at home with her family in hospice care.
