Meet Anthony

When Anthony was diagnosed with a brain tumor, his single mother was determined to explore every possible treatment. After many rounds of chemotherapy and surgery, sadly, the cancer recurred threatening his life once again. When the hope of an experimental treatment was offered, Mom arranged to travel 3,000 across the country for Anthony’s care. But Anthony’s illness had taken a huge financial toll on the family, and Mom could not afford the full cost of the trip. ASRL stepped in to pay for their week-long hotel stay, and provided food cards for mom and some favorite CDs for Anthony during his hospital stay.

The Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation (a 501(c)(3) public charity) provides emergency assistance within 24 hours to single caregivers of children with catastrophic or life threatening illnesses who are in financial crises. Working in partnership with 12 pediatric hospitals nationally, we have helped over 7,000 family members in the past nine years. Without ASRL’s support, many children with life threatening illnesses would be facing pain, treatments, fear, and at times, even their death, without a parent by their side.
