President Obama Proclaims November to be National Family Caregiver’s Month
President Obama speaks up in support for family caregivers in the workplace who are striving to balance work and family caregiving responsibilities in his proclamation for National Family Caregivers Month. According to the proclamation, “Families are best able to care for their loved ones when they can take time away from work without fear of losing their job or their income.”
The Obama administration officially kicked off November’s National Family Caregivers Month (NFC Month) to celebrate the estimated 50 million Americans providing care for their loved ones suffering from chronic ailments; disabilities or the frailties of old age. The proclamation “encourages all Americans to pay tribute and support those who are caring for their family members, friends, and neighbors in need of assistance.” Family caregivers are providing over 80% of all long term care in America with services valued at an estimated $375 billion annually in caregiving for their loved ones.
