Meet Andre
Andre Sobel was a remarkable young man who had natural dignity, a promising future and an unconventional sense of humor. Andre’s young life ended just one year after he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He was 19. Throughout his 417 days of illness, his mother Valerie was at his bedside, never imagining that the gift of time with Andre was something that other parents could be deprived of with their children – due to financial hardship. After Andre’s death, Valerie could not shake the images of other children enduring treatment, surgeries and at times even death without a loving parent at their side. She founded the the Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation and dedicated it to giving single parent caregivers the greatest gift of all – time with their children – by providing urgent financial support when all other resources are exhausted.
