I am a donor to the Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation. When our daughter Jenny spent months in the hospital after an automobile accident as a teen, we saw firsthand the strain on families blindsided by medical trauma. We were lucky: Jenny had the best doctors, my husband Tim had a job with insurance, and I could drop everything to be with our daughter. What about mothers who are alone? What about families without insurance? What happens to single dads who lose their jobs when their child gets sick? Who makes sure they don’t lose their home, their job and their child? When we heard about the Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation, we knew we must get involved as a family. Now we are helping to set up a new ASRL program at a major pediatric hospital in Chicago, our hometown.
